Betty Crocker Packaging Redesign

For this project, I chose to redesign Betty Crocker’s Cake Mix box design. I chose this design as my focus because currently, all cake mix boxes on the shelves look the same in design and layout. I believe that the design for something as fun and yummy as cake doesn’t deserve to have a boring box design.

For my redesign, I wanted to bring a retro and whimsical aesthetic to the box. My first few sketches looked a lot similar to the formatting of the old design. As I continued to sketch, I got closer and closer to the final design I envisioned: making the whole box into a cake with a slice cut out to see the flavor of the cake.

I played around with using real pictures of cake designs, as well as editing and filters on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. In the end, I achieved the retro cake look I was hoping for in this final design.
